Libertarian Party of California Condemns Trump’s Flippant Remarks About Los Angeles and San Diego

SACRAMENTO — The Libertarian Party of California condemns President Trump’s casual invocation of attacks on Los Angeles and San Diego during his Monday rally in Nebraska.

While discussing the war and its economic consequences, Trump said, “Let ’em take out Los Angeles, let ’em take out San Diego.”

These are communities of millions: families, children, veterans, small-business owners, and military personnel. Speaking casually about their possible destruction is morally indefensible.

The White House now says the President was describing the danger the United States seeks to prevent. Even accepting that explanation, people’s lives are never something to be treated flippantly. Americans should not have to wonder whether the President is treating threats to their lives as a political punchline.

War’s consequences are real. People lose their lives. Families lose loved ones. Higher fuel costs strain household budgets and small businesses. Further escalation threatens additional suffering, both abroad and here at home. Those burdens deserve sober judgment, not dismissive rhetoric.

Libertarians oppose unchecked presidential war-making and insist on constitutional accountability. This is not negotiable. Decisions that put lives at risk demand public scrutiny, congressional responsibility, and a clear explanation of the objectives, costs, and path toward ending the conflict.

Government exists to protect individual life and liberty. Individual lives must never be abstracted, lest they become disposable. There are no disposable people.

This should not be a partisan question. Every American deserves a president who treats the human consequences of war with the seriousness the office demands.
